In this episode, Mitch Gross talks to me about optical theory and lenses. During his time at Able Cine as a solutions expert, Mitch became known as an excellent educator for his ability to make difficult concepts easy to understand. Mitch has now taken elements of those videos to produce a course for the online education portal Mzed called "The Secret of Optics".

11: The Canon C300 mk3
In April of 2020 Canon announced the C300 Mk 3. Using the same form factor as the C500 Mk 2, the big change is that the camera uses a Super 35mm sized sensor, not Full Frame.
I am joined by two owner operators and filmmakers, Dave Young and Peter Demetris to discuss the camera as well as its new sibling the C70.

Tuesday the 17th of November 2020 saw the release of the Sony FX6. In conduction with Top Teks, I managed to get some time with Richard Lewis from Sony to discuss the workings of the new camera. This isn’t a review as I haven’t managed to get my hands on it but I hope you find it useful.

9: The Art of being a DP
And now for part two of my chat with Art Adams.
There is no real theme to this episode. Its the best bits of the conversation that are not about the technology that were too good to leave on the cutting room floor. We talk about what it is like getting work, skirt around some tech, a bit of TV set politics, and a bit of laughter.
8: Art Adams Part 1: The Tech
Art Adams was until recently a highly regarded freelance DP working in commercials and corporates on the West coast of America. But he is known to many for his extensive contributions to sites like Pro Video Collation and CML.
He recently took up a position at Arri as a Cinema Lens Specialist - a job which allows him to geek out to his hearts content with some of the best cameras and lenses in the world.
In the first of a two parter, Art and I talk about the technical side of cinematography, his extensive camera testing and how he got into cinematography.
7: No NAB special
So there was no NAB, but manufactures still released an amuse bouche of cameras, lenses and lighting. We couldn’t get hands on so this is just some initial thoughts on the some of the more interesting releases.
